This year’s Championships were held at Regency Lake, Gulf Harbour on Sunday, 19th February. The day started with light winds from the north and light showers. By 10.15am the winds had freshened to 10 knots from the north east and the rain had cleared. After lunch sun was out in force and the wind increased to 15 knots gusting 20 until the end of the day after 16 races had been sailed.
The field was extremely even and at the lunch break only 8 points separated the top eight boats.
The winner Grant Nixon displayed all his experience by winning 4 races and having four seconds and proved that consistency by being placed in the top five places will always win you a medal. Both Roddy Booth and Philip Pryde returned top performances with Roddy just out performing Phil by 5 points.
The day was extremely well managed and it was a credit to all the skippers that no protests were heard and the sailing attitude on the water was excellent.
After the afternoon BBQ, presentations were made to the winners by Commodore, Graham Clough, who had just returned from a holiday down country.
