Marblehead Challenge Series 5

Sunday August 13th 2017

RO Report

Sailing started at 10:15am with 7 boats lining up on the start line. North westerly wind prevailed with everyone using A swing rigs. Throughout the morning the wind pressure increased so by lunchtime it was right on the top of A rig going into B rig. A box course was set with a gate at the bottom, so picking the correct exit was important. Close rounding’s at the top mark meant holding your nerve and those that kept things smooth reaped the rewards of a clean run. The call was made for an early break after 10 races to have lunch and the time to change down to B rigs.

Racing resumed at 12:15 with some hard and very close racing. Getting a good start was important as well as covering. A few boats had minor breakages that were sorted and allowed them back on the water. Back to back racing at times allowed us to complete 21 races which gave everyone plenty of time on the water. Penalties were sorted out on the water as it should be, and all skippers displayed a great attitude even when things didn’t go their way which made running this day easy. Congratulations to Carl Smith for being the most consistent and winning Series 5. Thanks to Neil Wood and Peter Pollard foe their support and help with scoring and recording all results. Also thanks to Sharon Edge for taking photos during the day.
