DF 65 North Island Champs Results

DF65 North Island Champs 22 nd to 23 rd October 2022 at Wattle Farm.
Race Officers Report
– A fine sunny weekend.
– 17 boats ready to sail representing Tauranga, Nelson and Wattle Farm clubs.
The Briefing at 9.30am was to ‘hurry up and wait’ for the wind.
After an hour’s delay a light Easterly came in and we were able to set a course across the carpark
end of the pond to get racing underway. The breeze came and went a few times but generally held
from the East. By mid afternoon the breeze had gone around to the South and we were able to sail
off the side jetty with the wind fairly consistent in direction down the pond and increasing to about 6
knots.
Sailing as one fleet we completed 15 races on Saturday.
Graham Roberts (Tauranga) gave everyone a sailing lesson with a near perfect score after discarding
two second places but unfortunately that was Graham’s lot as he said goodbye to everyone and
headed back to Tauranga.
Sunday started with another period of waiting for the wind which eventually came in from the SW
and gradually built to around 10 to 12 knots.
We completed another 12 races by 3.00 pm cut-off to give a series of 27 races.
There were some good performances throughout the fleet with everyone having their moment.
Congratulations to Kerry Earl on winning the Regatta from Bill Bradley and Nick Burbridge.
Thank you to all competitors for an enjoyable weekend sailed in good spirit.
Thank you also to Roy Granich, Ian McClew, Lewis Avenall and John Porter for their assistance in
running the regatta.
